As we get older and reach exciting milestones, it may be the time to consider writing your first Will. Although it may seem daunting, having a valid Will is one of the most important things you can do, and can be a simple and quick process.

Not only does a Will legally protect your loved ones, and assets, it also gives you comfort and the peace of mind of knowing that things will be handled exactly how you would like.

When supporters consider including a gift for a us in their Will, they help us achieve a cancer free future for all. All gifts, no matter the size help us work towards our vision of a cancer free future.

Here are four major milestones where you could consider writing a Will:

1. Marriage

When it comes to administering an estate, relationships are an extremely important factor to consider. Prenuptial agreements are commonly discussed before marriage, but it is also important to remember that this milestone should also involve writing your first Will.

2. Buying your first home

Whether or not you’re a first home buyer, property is often a person’s largest asset. Buying your first home, although a very busy time is also a crucial time to protect your assets through writing your Will.

3. Starting a family

Having children is a precious but busy time in your life. While adjusting to life as a parent, it’s important to remember to appoint a legal guardian for your children and consider them financially in your Will. This will give you the peace of mind that they will be taken care of and be looked after by somebody that you love and trust.

4. Adopting a new pet

Did you know that if you own dogs, cats, or any other pets, you can account for them in your Will and guarantee that your fuzzy family members will have a wonderful life far into the future? If you have recently welcomed a furry family member into your home, this could be the perfect time to write your first Will to ensure your new pet is looked after should anything happen.

When hitting these important milestones in your life, you may even wish to include a gift in your Will to a charity you feel passionate about. It allows your legacy to live on and reflect your personal values and interests.

We take pride in being the largest leading cancer charity working across every aspect of every cancer, every day, we support families affected by cancer when they need it most, speak out on behalf of the community on cancer issues, empower people to reduce their cancer risk, and find new ways to better detect and treat cancer.

Leaving just one per cent of your estate means those closest to you receive 99 per cent but the causes you care about benefit too.
