Fourth man charged over fight at correctional facility in Sydney’s east

A fourth man has been charged over his involvement in a fight at a correctional facility in Sydney’s east earlier this year.

About 11.30am on Monday 8 June 2020, two inmates were assaulted during a brawl in a yard of the Malabar correctional facility.

A number of fights broke out across two yards of the facility before correctional officers contained the situation.

Detectives from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command commenced an investigation and charged three men on Wednesday 9 September 2020. They remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, detectives charged a 37-year-old man today (Wednesday 30 September 2020), with use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, and stalk/harass/intimidate law officer (not police officer).

Police will allege in court that during the incident a number of inmates failed to comply with directions and the man produced a weapon.

He remains on remand and will appear at Waverley Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 1 October 2020).
