The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) has confirmed Townsville City Council will re-open waste transfer station sites this afternoon.
TLDMG Chair Jenny Hill said the Stuart and Hervey Range sites were now open, enabling people to start cleaning up their yards.
A temporary green waste and food waste disposal site at Lou Litster Park, behind Officeworks, will also open at 2pm.
The Bluewater transfer station will be open from 7am until 4.30pm Saturday 27 January, Sunday 28 January, Monday 29 January, Tuesday 30 January and Wednesday 31 January.
“We know there will be many people cleaning out their fridges and freezers today, throwing out food which may have gone off because of power outages,” Cr Hill said.
“People can bring their food waste and green waste to Townsville City Council’s transfer stations for free.
“Green waste affecting safe access into or out of your property that may be blocking driveways or access to your property may be placed on the nature strip for collection.”
Townsville City Council will also resume household bin collections from tomorrow morning (Saturday 27 January).
“Household bin services will start tomorrow for people whose bins would have normally been collected on Thursday,” Cr Hill said.
“Friday bins will be collected on Sunday and normal services will be back from Monday.”
