Up to 30 Goulburn residents could be eligible to receive a free $450 home energy assessment to identify energy cost savings and make their homes more comfortable.
The Office of Energy and Climate Change’s (OECC) Sustainability Director, Emily Yip, said getting a rating will help householders choose upgrades that will lead to a more comfortable home that is cheaper to run.
“A qualified energy assessor will come to your home and rate your home’s energy use and comfort, and provide you with tailored recommendations for improvements,” Ms Yip said.
“These recommendations might include energy efficient windows, air-conditioning, hot water systems, pool filtration pumps, insulation, and draught proofing.
“This Energy Efficient Retrofits pilot project will help us learn more about the energy performance of existing houses and how energy assessments, ratings, finance and other support could encourage householders to incorporate energy efficiency into their home improvements.”
Renters and those with homes in a strata scheme are not eligible for this offer as they would need landlord or strata scheme permission to implement any of the recommended upgrades.
The OECC’s partners under this pilot are Behaviour Works Australia, Wingecarribee Shire Council, Wollondilly Shire Council and WinZero.
The trial is open to homeowners in freestanding homes in the Goulburn local government area. Eligible homeowners can find out more on the NSW Climate and Energy Action website
