Community Industry Group is proud to sponsor a Yarn with Aboriginal Elders as part of the Wollongong
Seniors Festival 2020. The event is a collaboration project with the Illawarra Aboriginal Corporation.

Braham “Yarning for Aboriginal communities is a way of communicating. It’s about speaking and listening.

Yarning is a timeless way of learning and sharing for Aboriginal people.
“Many people have never had the opportunity to have a conversation with Aboriginal people ” said Nicky
Sloan, CEO of Community Industry Group “The Having a Yarn with Aboriginal Elders will give non -Aboriginal
people the opportunity to sit with Aboriginal Elders, listen to their stories and ask questions in a safe and non –
judgemental space. ”
Participants in this free event will also enjoy free morning tea and a light lu nch.
“We encourage all seniors to take advantage of this opportunity ” said Ms Sloan “it’s a great chance to share
stories and experiences, which are significant in all of our lives and which shape who we are. It is also a
wonderful way to build new connections and understandings. ”
“We like to think that this project will bring together Elders from all communities ” added Ms Braham “I am
sure we could all learn from the collective knowledge and wisdom that will be in the room on that day. ”
