Free showerheads for Armidale residents

Armidale residents will have the opportunity to swap their old showerhead for a new, high-quality replacement, under a free exchange program by Council to help households save water, energy and money.

Council will be offering the new showerheads at a stall at this Sunday’s Armidale Markets in the Mall at 8.30am to 1pm.

To receive a water saving showerhead, property owners need to:

  • Bring in their existing showerhead (maximum of two per home)
  • Provide a water notice for the home to prove address(residents must be connected to town water supply to be eligible)
  • Bring a completed application form to show you agree to terms and conditions. Forms can be downloaded here (PDF 151KB)

“Interested people will need to act quickly because we have a limited number of showerheads to give away,” Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray said.

The initiative follows a showerhead exchange program currently being offered in Guyra to help save water during the town’s ongoing water restrictions.

“The exchange has been positively received by residents as we look at all avenues to conserve remaining dam supplies during this drought.

“Installing water-efficient devices is one of the easiest ways to improve water efficiency in your home and can save you up to seven litres per minute or 25,000 litres of water a year.”

Councillor Murray said Armidale households could get up to two showerheads for free through the exchange.

“Quality water-efficient showerheads pay for themselves in reduced water usage and saved water heating costs,” he said.

Council recommends a licenced plumber remove and replace showerheads.
