Do you have old or unwanted household chemicals at home? You can get rid of them responsibly at the Detox your home event on Saturday 5 December at the Mornington Waste Disposal Centre.
Sustainability Victoria’s Detox your home is a free, safe and convenient pop-up event for households to dispose of chemicals. The event is designed to accept a specific range of highly toxic household chemicals not accepted at most transfer stations because they pose a high risk when combined or stored in large volumes.
Household chemicals can be dangerous. They can harm your family and your pets, add extra fuel to a house fire, release toxic fumes and pollute the environment for future generations.
It’s dangerous to throw chemical products out with your regular rubbish collection as they can explode, ignite, leak or mix with other chemicals.
Pouring household chemicals down the drain pollutes our waterways, harms animals and vegetation, contaminates our water supply and make rivers and beaches unsafe for swimming.
Items collected on the day will be recovered and diverted from landfill.
This year Detox your home is a contactless, COVID-safe drive-through only event, which means you have to register to attend. Please bring your confirmation email to check in. Only one person per car please, the on-ground chemist will do the heavy lifting.
