Free Youth Week event this Wednesday

Head along to Victoria Park this Wednesday for a free celebration of our Region’s young people, hosted by the Rockhampton Youth Interagency!

The event is being supported by Rockhampton Regional Council through the Community Assistance Program, with some additional Council funding also allocated through Mayor Tony Williams’ Councillor Discretionary Fund.

Communities Councillor Drew Wickerson said festivities will kick off at 10am, and people aged 12 to 25 are invited to come along with their families.

“This is shaping up to be a great event for our Region’s young people,” Councillor Wickerson said.

“Youth week is all about celebrating the contribution that young people make to our community, and this event will do just that.”

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said he is glad Council is able to support such a great occasion.

“Our community is filled with incredible young people who are passionate about their Region,” Mayor Williams said.

“It is great to be able to highlight and celebrate this contribution, and I really want to thank the Rockhampton Youth Interagency for hosting this.”

Kylie Johnston from the Rockhampton Youth Interagency said the event will have a great range of activities and entertainment as well as stallholders from the youth and family sectors.

“There’ll be lunch and dinner provided as well as arts, crafts and physical activities to enjoy throughout the day,” Ms Johnston said.

“From about 6.15pm onwards there’ll also be a Silent Disco for attendees to enjoy, as well as a twilight movie playing in the park.

“It will be a great day for young people from across the Region to come together, and we’d really like to thank Council for their supporting the event.”
