The City of Fremantle has been inducted into the WA Tourism Council’s Hall of Fame, after winning its third consecutive award for Excellence in Local Government for Tourism.
City of Fremantle is only the second local government to have achieved this honour in the 50 year history of the WA Tourism Awards.
The tourism industry’s annual premier awards showcase WA tourism operators’ innovation and dedication to excellence across 27 categories.

Chair of the Fremantle-based Prendiville Group, Peter Prendiville, was awarded the Sir David Brand Medal for Tourism in recognition of his contribution to the industry as a developer and operator of well-known brands such as Sandalford Wines, Samphire Rottnest and in Fremantle the Tradewinds, Norfolk and Pier 21 hotels. His commitment to education and training was also recognised, as well as service to the industry through board and committee roles.
Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said the combined efforts of Fremantle’s visitor-facing businesses working closely with the Council to create unique and memorable experiences for tourists was paying off.
“We’re proud to be able to accept this recognition on behalf of all the people who work tirelessly to make Fremantle the incredible destination it is,” she said.
Mayor Fitzhardinge also acknowledged the ongoing commitment of members of the Destination Marketing Working Group whose expertise have and continue to guide the City’s success in tourism.
Last year, the City also won gold for the THIS IS FREMANTLE marketing campaign which went on to be highly commended at a national level.
