A former teacher will face court today after fresh charges were laid over historical alleged grooming and indecent assaults of a student in Sydney’s south-west.
In 2016, detectives from State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad established Strike Force Verletta to investigate allegations a teacher was procuring and indecently assaulting students.
On Thursday 8 September 2016, strike force detectives arrested a then 29-year-old man.
In November 2018, investigators commenced further inquiries after receiving a report another student has been indecently assaulted by his teacher.
Following extensive inquiries, Strike Force Verletta detectives arrested a 31-year-old man at a correctional facility at South Nowra on Wednesday 21 November 2018.
He was charged by way of a Future Court Attendance Notice for procure child under 16 for sexual activity and indecent assault of a person under 16 years.
Police will allege in court the man procured and indecently assaulted the student on numerous occasions between June 2014 and March 2015 at a primary school in Sydney’s south-west.
The man, now aged 32, is due to appear at Nowra Local Court today (Monday 7 January 2019).
The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
