CFA has launched a new Fire Safety section on its website, making it easier for the community to access clear and practical advice.
Replacing the previous Plan and Prepare section, the project has been three years in the making, informed by member and community feedback, website analytics and exploring digital trends and expert advice.
This research helped CFA gain a better understanding of how people search for, access and use CFA’s fire safety information online.
The new page designs, navigation features and layout cater to a range of different needs, making important information easier to find while still providing more comprehensive advice to those who want it.
Deputy Chief Officer Alen Slijepcevic said ultimately these improvements strengthen CFA’s role as a trusted source of fire safety information for both members and the wider community.
“When communities have questions about fire safety, reducing fire risk, or preparing their homes, they often turn to their local CFA for advice and information,” Alen said.
“It was an important project for us to ensure we’re providing the most up-to-date information that is easy to access, understand and put into action.”
The scale of the project has been significant. Alongside rewriting content, more than 1,200 images, videos, illustrations and resources were developed or updated to help explain fire safety information in practical and engaging ways.
The Fire Safety and Resources sections have expanded from around 120 pages to almost 200 pages, bringing important information out of PDF documents and onto webpages. This not only improves the user experience but also helps search engines such as Google to connect people to the information they’re looking for.
“Finding information will also become easier thanks to a redesigned navigation structure and updated page names that better reflect the words and phrases people use when searching for content,” Alen said.
“With more users accessing information via phones and tablets, the website has also been optimised for mobile devices, ensuring a seamless experience and making information available whether at home or out and about.”
A new Resources section will replace the Schools section and be a central hub for publications, fact sheets, checklists and other community education materials. Schools content will be found in both the Resources and Fire Safety sections.
CFA encourages Victorians to explore the new information and resources, build an understanding of fire safety and take practical steps to prepare for the 2026-27 fire season.
