Police have arrested a man spotted driving a stolen Hilux at a fast rate of speed from Melbourne’s eastern to north-western suburbs this morning.
Officers spotted the allegedly stolen vehicle with cloned registration plates travelling at a fast rate of speed along High Street in Malvern about 1.30am.
With support from the Air Wing, Operation Trinity officers followed the vehicle travel at alleged speeds of up to 160km/h through the eastern suburbs of Ashburton, Malvern, Camberwell and Burwood, before it headed along the Eastern Freeway into the city and out to Gladstone Park, Broadmeadows and Glenroy.
Stop sticks were successfully deployed near Broadmeadows Police Station on Pascoe Vale Road, deflating the vehicle’s tyres before it came to rest against a pole near Anselm Grove.
The Air Wing observed the driver jumping fences on Anselm Grove where he attempted to hide in a rear yard.
The 37-year-old surrendered at the sound of the approaching police dog and he was arrested without incident.
The Wallan man will be interviewed this morning.

Operation Trinity is solely dedicated to preventing and responding to burglaries and car thefts – running from dusk to dawn across Melbourne each night.
The operation sees uniform police supported by a range of specialist units, including the Dog Squad, Public Order Response and Air Wing.
While arrests remain high, the primary aim of Operation Trinity is to prevent people having their homes broken into in the first place.
To achieve this, Trinity units conduct a range of disruption activities, including saturating suburbs based on intelligence, intercepting thousands of vehicles each month, and nightly patrols around the homes of Victoria’s most prolific burglars and youth gang members.
These offenders are largely opportunistic by nature – seeking easy access points through unlocked doors and windows.
As such, police implore the community to take simple steps such as locking all doors and windows on your home and car.
