Funding approved to boost local arts initiatives in Moira Shire

In a move to continue the enhancement of the local arts and culture scene, Moira Shire Council has approved funding for The G.R.A.I.N. Store in Nathalia and Arts for All in Cobram, as part of the Moira Creative Arts Hubs program.

Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM emphasised the invaluable role of the arts in regional communities.

“The arts play a crucial role in the vitality of regional communities, connecting people, preserving local heritage, and fuelling economic growth,” said Dr Emonson.

Council’s commitment to fostering local arts is reflected in the Moira Creative Arts Hubs program, a key initiative outlined in the Arts and Culture Strategy 2020 – 2026.

“Recognising and supporting our Creative Hubs at the local level is a strategic priority for Council. Strong arts and culture programs are vital to our community’s strength, and I am delighted that we can provide this funding to The G.R.A.I.N. Store and Arts for All,” added Dr Emonson.

The Moira Creative Arts Hubs program is designed to enrich the community by offering localised arts and culture programs to both residents and visitors alike. The program focuses on developing inclusive activities, providing affordable exhibition and performance opportunities, offering professional development, and building knowledge of Moira’s diverse cultural identity.

The G.R.A.I.N. Store in Nathalia serves as a year-round exhibition space, showcasing works from both local artists and professionals. This is complemented by a regular calendar of workshops, performances, and community events.

Arts for All in Cobram has made a significant impact on public art in the shire, with notable projects such as the Turtle Sculpture, the ‘Cobram’ Mural, and upcoming projects like the Thompsons Beach mosaics and the Mivo Park mural.

Each organisation has been awarded $30,000 to deliver their localised action plans across 2024/2025. In addition, Council will continue to support CAN Hub in Numurkah and Across the Arts in Yarrawonga, ensuring the ongoing delivery of arts and culture programming across the shire with funding that has already been provided in recent years.
