Funding boost for grass roots sports

3 January 2024

Ten sporting and recreation clubs have received up to $5000 to deliver programs, training or to purchase equipment as part of the Northern Territory Government’s Grassroots Grants program.

Sport and recreation plays an important part in bringing our communities together – with 120,000 people across the Territory participating each year.

These grants provided by the Territory Labor Government give a vital boost to resources our clubs can access.

The program provides funding to sport and active recreation organisations to support a range of initiatives such as activities, planning, volunteer development, promotion and equipment.

The grant recipients from this round will use the funds to provide shade, first aid training for volunteers, improve club infrastructure and develop business cases for clubs.

The 10 club recipients are:

– Darwin Motorcycle Club

– Nightcliff Swimming Club

– Nhulunbuy Amateur Swimming Club

– Casuarina Rugby Union Club

– Palmerston Game Fishing Club

– Litchfield Polocrosse Club

– Noonamah Polocrosse Club

– Palmerston Boxing Club

– Waratah Hockey Club

– Jingili BMX Club

The Territory Labor Government is committed to supporting grassroots sports. Last year the Territory Government released its NT Sport Volunteer Strategy Plan 2023 -2025 supported by $200,000 towards grants, initiatives and activities.

Applications are now open for the Grassroots Grant Program Round 2 with over $98,000 available across both rounds in 2023-24. Round 2 applications close on March 14.
