Kingston Council welcomes State Government funding received under the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund for two key projects.
The funding is a $300,000 contribution towards the upgrade of the Peter Scullin Reserve Playspace in Mordialloc and $125,000 towards new sports lighting on the Bonbeach St Chads Baseball Club’s Diamond 1.
The work at Peter Scullin will see the regional playspace become modern and accessible and will include water play, swings, coastal/nautical theme elements and interactive play features, while the new lighting at Bonbeach St Chads will expand training and playing opportunities.
With this extra funding now secured, both projects will progress to tender, and will be completed in 2023. Construction at Peter Scullin Reserve will commence after the busy summer holiday period and the March Mordi Food and Wine Festival.
Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said the funding contribution was very welcome news and would enable Council to push ahead with these important community-focused projects.
“We are committed to improving facilities across the city, as shown by the record capital investment in the 2022-23 budget, and any assistance from the Victorian Government is always most appreciated,” Cr Staikos said.
“The suite of projects we are currently working on will collectively address current barriers to participation, improve accessibility, increase participation rates, provide much needed support to our local sporting clubs, and assist in the promotion of play and healthy active lifestyles for the community.”
