We are investing $30 million through the Grid Enhancing Technologies (GET) Grant Program to support 14 projects across Australia.
The grants support technologies that can:
- strengthen electricity networks
- improve energy performance
- deliver more renewable energy.
The projects will help move more renewable energy across the grid and support better use of rooftop solar, batteries and electric vehicles (EVs).
They include:
- using EVs as batteries when electricity demand is high
- encouraging people to charge EVs at the best times using flexible pricing
- shared solar and battery solutions for apartment buildings
- software that helps developers quickly find the best places to connect new renewable energy projects to the grid
- tools that help grid operators find better and faster ways to increase capacity and adjust the grid’s electricity flow in real time
- devices that make the grid more stable during high solar generation so more power can be used safely
- software that manages multiple batteries across the network to reduce pressure on the grid.
The GET Grant Program is part of the Rewiring the Nation program, which is helping modernise and expand Australia’s electricity system.
To receive funding, applicants had to show how their project could be scaled across Australia’s many electricity networks. Successful applicants are also required to share their results and lessons to support wider use of the technology.
The GET Grant Program was designed based on consultation with industry and electricity network stakeholders. We received more than 200 eligible applications seeking almost $600 million in funding.
The projects were selected through a competitive grant process supported by independent expert advice.
