Funding for roundabout beautification

Bass Coast Shire Council will allocate $113,000 in the 2020/21 Budget to beautify Phillip Island’s newest roundabouts, on Woolamai Beach Road and Back Beach Road.

Regional Roads Victoria is currently constructing these roundabouts.

Council committed $50,000 in its 2019/20 Budget to develop a concept design for the Entry to Phillip Island, which celebrates Phillip Island’s environmental significance.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said that the Entry to Phillip Island Project was developed in line with the Phillip Island and San Remo Visitor Economy Strategy 2035, Growing Tourism.

“This Strategy states that Phillip Island and San Remo should be recognised nationally and globally as a world leading sustainable tourism destination, where tourism is embraced by the community,” Cr Tessari said.

“This additional $113,000 in funding provides us with the opportunity to continue the landscaping and other works to the two new roundabouts, so the theme continues as you travel across Phillip Island.

“By investing in the beautification of these new roundabouts, it will ensure that our visitors get a great first impression of the Island.”

The roundabout upgrades will include landscaping and the use of textured concrete and paving and will start once construction is complete.
