Further charges laid after a war memorial was defaced at Bathurst, NSW

Further charges have been laid following investigations after a war memorial was allegedly defaced in the state’s west yesterday.

About 3pm (Thursday 20 July 2019), police were called to Russell Street at Bathurst, after reports a man was allegedly seen spray painting a war memorial within Machattie Park.

Officers from Chifley Police District responded and whilst patrolling, spoke to a man in Simpsons Lane.

The 39-year-old man was restrained and arrested. The officers were not injured.

Following further inquiries, the man was additionally charged with supply prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug, destroy or damage property, wilfully damage or deface any protected place, and use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.

He has been refused bail to appear in Bathurst Local Court today (Friday 21 June 2019).
