Further charges laid after investigations into historical sexual assaults in Eastern Suburbs

Detectives have laid further charges against a hairdresser after a second woman came forward to report allegations of historical sexual assaults in the Eastern Suburbs during the mid-eighties.

In November 2018, detectives from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command launched an investigation into sexual assaults that allegedly occurred in 1985.

On Monday 18 May 2020, detectives arrested a 76-year-old man at Day Street Police Station.

He was charged with two counts of sexually assaulting a client – who was 15-years-old at the time- at his hairdressing salon at Rose Bay, and also at a house in Double Bay. This matter remains before the court.

On Wednesday 20 May 2020, a woman, now aged 50, who was an employee of the Rose Bay salon in 1985, attended Day Street Police Station where she spoke to Eastern Suburbs detectives.

Following inquiries, about 12pm yesterday (Thursday 18 June 2020), the 76-year-old man attended Day Street Police Station where he was arrested.

He was charged with rape, and two counts of sexual assault (cat 3) knowing no consent given.

He was given strict conditional bail and is due to appear in the Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 5 August 2020.
