Further economic stimulus measures welcomed and further steps to be taken

The Tasmanian Liberal Government welcomes the release of the second stage of the Federal Government’s economic plan.

Announced today, the package will provide welcome assistance for casual workers, sole traders, retirees, businesses and countless families who are uncertain what the future holds.

These measures are vitally needed and will help soften the impact that coronavirus is having, and will continue to have on our way of life in the coming months.

Importantly, these measures will complement our $420 million support package for Tasmanians that I announced earlier this week.

We are working on a second Tasmanian Government stimulus package that will help Tasmanians even further, and I will anounce this in coming days.

The coming months will be hard on Tasmanians as we deal with the ongoing impacts the coronavirus pandemic is having, but the most important things we can do are stay calm and follow the advice from health professionals.

This includes being vigilant around social distancing, and adhering to the self isolation requirements when instructed to do so.

Furthermore, Tasmania has acted early in terms of our borders and it remains important that we continue to take the difficult and necessary steps to protect the health, wellbeing and safety of our communities.

Tonight at National Cabinet further measures to manage non-essential gatherings, the management of aged care homes and the future of our schools will be on the agenda.

Tasmanians can rest assured that should difficult decisions be required that will protect their health, wellbeing and safety, I will make those decisions.

I know that people are worried and stressed in these difficult times, but rest assured that we will get through this.
