Further support for Tasmanian artists and arts organisations

Elise Archer,Minister for the Arts

The Tasmanian Government is a strong supporter of Tasmania’s vibrant cultural and creative sector.

I am delighted to announce that 21 recipients will share more than $880,000 through Arts Tasmania’s latest funding rounds.

Importantly, this will help to create more than 200 employment opportunities for artists and arts organisations across Tasmania.

This funding round includes $500,000 of new funds as part of our Government’s Cultural and Creative Industries stimulus package to support Tasmanian arts organisations through COVID-19.

I am also pleased to announce that a further 23 arts organisations around the State will receive more than $2.3 million in support in 2021 through contract extensions as part of the arts stimulus package and existing multi-year agreements.

Among the successful applicants is Hobart based organisation Music Tasmania, which will use the funds to deliver a range of activities to enhance the capacity and connectivity of our diverse music sector. This will be delivered locally and online, allowing Music Tasmania to continue its work helping to develop local artists and music professionals throughout 2021.

The Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania has also secured funds towards a collaboration with the Story Island Project in 2021. Through this initiative, artists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds will deliver creative storytelling workshops and mentoring opportunities to young Tasmanians.

Launceston based Junction Arts Festival has also received support to work with local creators to develop and deliver an exciting range of artistic activities during the popular event in 2021.

Applications to Arts Tasmania’s programs are independently assessed by expert peers drawn from the Cultural and Creative Industries Register. Peer recommendations were approved by the Department of State Growth under delegation.
