Further teens charged after investigations into Pyrmont stabbing, NSW

Two further teens have been charged following investigations into a stabbing at Pyrmont last week that left a man with significant injuries.

Just before 11pm on Friday (31 July 2020), police were called to the intersection of Pyrmont Bridge Road and Wattle Streets, after reports of an assault.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended and found a 36-year-old man suffering serious facial injuries.

Investigators have been told the man was confronted and assaulted by a group of males, who weren’t known to him, before being repeatedly stabbed in the face and slashed with the knife.

The man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he remains in an induced coma receiving treatment to significant facial injuries, including the loss of an eye.

To date, five teens have been arrested by detectives and remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, a 15-year-old boy was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station about midday yesterday (Monday 3 August 2020).

He was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and affray.

Following subsequent inquiries, detectives arrested a 15-year-old boy at a home in Killara about 8.30pm yesterday (Monday 3 August 2020).

Police will allege the boy was involved in a social media group chat after the incident and allegedly incited violence against another boy. He wasn’t involved in the assault on the man at Pyrmont.

He was charged with incite the commission of crimes.

Both teens were refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Tuesday 4 August 2020).

Investigations into the assault are continuing.
