The future path of Deniliquin and surrounding communities is the focus of a new plan for Edward River Council, and they’re seeking the community’s help to identify the key priorities.
“Our long- and short-term planning is always based on the needs of the community,” Edward River Council’s mayor Norm Brennan said.
“Community consultation has resulted in many completed projects in the last four years. From the revamped Scott’s Park – a direct request from our last community consultation – to upgrades of our streetscapes, our sporting grounds and community halls, improved kerb and guttering and better, safer roads.
“Since amalgamation, we have worked together to prioritise capital works, and we received significant merger funding from multiple sources,” Cr Brennan said.
The Council is currently developing a new 10-year Community Strategic Plan and has launched the Your Region, Your Say project to ensure the views of everyone in the community are heard and reflected in the plan for the future direction of the area.
“As we approach the end of our first term, it is imperative we have a roadmap for the next Council to follow in order to deliver infrastructure and services that the community is most in need of,” Cr Brennan said.
A series of drop-in sessions, and community and key stakeholder meetings, will be held later this month and in July, providing the community with a chance to voice their ideas, opinions and suggestions.
“This Plan is important for determining just what we want for our region, and where we want to be in the next decade, it is our community so community input is essential,” Cr Brennan said.
Community meetings will be held in Deniliquin as well as Booroorban, Blighty, Conargo, Mayrung, Pretty Pine and Wanganella, with dates and times to be published shortly.
Council has set up a shopfront at Project HQ in Napier Street for people to visit and share their ideas. The shopfront will be open on June 21, June 23 and June 25 from 10am to 11.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm; and at the same times on July 6 and 8.
An online survey will also be available on the Council’s website at www.edwardriver.nsw.gov.au.
