Twenty emerging community leaders have graduated from Greater Shepparton City Council’s 2026 Community Leadership Program, marking the successful completion of the program’s thirteenth year.
Delivered in partnership with Shane Garner Consulting, the program ran from May to September 2026 and provided participants with the opportunity to strengthen their leadership, build community connections and develop skills to support their involvement in the region.
The cohort brought together people with diverse experiences and goals, united by a shared commitment to making a positive contribution to the Greater Shepparton community.
A graduation ceremony was held in Shepparton on Wednesday 2 September. Mayor and past participant, Councillor Shane Sali, congratulated the graduates on their commitment to community leadership.
“The Community Leadership Program continues to play an important role in developing confident leaders who are passionate about making a difference in our community,” he said.
“It is encouraging to see participants from such diverse backgrounds come together to build skills that will benefit both their organisations and the broader Greater Shepparton community for years to come.”
Past participant, Councillor Sam Spinks, Poplar Ward, said she looked forward to seeing the valuable contributions the graduates make in and around Greater Shepparton.
“The program provides a fantastic opportunity to connect with like-minded people, develop leadership skills and make a meaningful contribution to the community,” she said.
The Community Leadership Program covers key leadership areas including public speaking, goal setting and monitoring, communication styles, resilience, governance, and community leadership.
