The vision for Fabrik Arts + Heritage is one step closer to being realised after Council resolved this week to approve plans for future development.
Fabrik, situated in the historic former Onkaparinga Woollen Mill in Lobethal, is now able to progress to seeking further funds that will make these plans a reality.
“The full vision for Fabrik includes major exhibition spaces, artist studios, retail space, and a heritage interpretation sharing the Onkaparinga Woollen Mill story,” said Fabrik Director Melinda Rankin.
“It’s a huge undertaking totaling $4.3 million, so with the plans approved our focus can shift to where we make up the shortfall on those funds.”
Adelaide Hills Council has committed $1.3 million for capital expenditure as part of the upgrades and hopes that the remaining $3 million may be found through the Cudlee Creek Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Program.
The development of the site builds upon activities already being presented at Fabrik since early 2019, with the aim to enable programs to expand and develop.
“We’ve had a fantastic response to the exhibitions, events and workshops we’ve presented in Fabrik in its current state, with over 12,000 visitors last year,” said Melinda.
“A redevelopment will enable us to present an exciting program across the whole site, presenting major exhibitions and developing Fabrik into a cultural facility that connects our community and entices more visitors to the hills.”
