Gallery One is set to open Jennifer Riddle’s latest solo exhibition Land Relics and Reflections on Friday 8 November 2019. The twelve-strong exhibition features new work from her atmospheric and highly collectible Tasmanian wilderness series. This will be Jennifer’s fifth solo exhibition with Gallery One.

Gallery One manager Karen Spooner says, “Jennifer Riddle is a rising star in the Australian art world. She has just been announced winner Brisbane’s recent Tattersalls Landscape Art Prize 2019 People’s Choice award. Works are selling on preview.

“We are thrilled to present Land Relics and Reflections. Jennifer’s recent win in Paddington Art Prize has secured her position as one of Australia’s most collectible artists. She is renowned for atmospheric, naturalistic landscapes of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula region and Tasmania’s remote south-west region.”

Land Relics and Reflections epitomises Jennifer’s distinctive style of landscape painting in which the painterly expression is enveloped by the artists’ personal and soulful attachment to her subject —the rugged and remote Bathurst Harbour in Tasmania. As Jennifer explains,

“Some places never leave you, they infiltrate your mind, body and soul, elevating the senses whilst offering a profound relief of inner clarity. For me, Bathurst Harbour in Tasmania’s south-west has proven to be such a place. Here, the remote and ancient wilderness evokes memories of the land’s past. With prehistoric remnants of its glacial heritage exposed in the distinctive quartzite rocks and unique vegetation stemming back to the land’s primal beginnings, this rugged and stoic terrain embodies the endurance of another time.

“Yet today fears for this landscape grows as climatic conditions now threaten our most precious wilderness regions. Fuelled by the sublime beauty, meditative solace and empathy for this landscape, I reflect on our profound and sometimes lost an innate relationship with nature.”

Over the course of Jennifer Riddle’s remarkable career, the Victorian-based artist has received acclaim and attention, winning many People’s Choice awards in prestigious art prizes including Brisbane’s recent Tattersalls Landscape Art Prize, The Glover Art Prize and 2018 Hadley’s Art Prize, Winner of People’s Choice Award, Hobart, Tasmania.

Her previous exhibition Hither Land in 2017 was a sell-out show. It runs until the end of November at Gallery One, located at The Brickworks in Southport.
