Shellharbour City Council crews are preparing sportsfields, parks and open spaces across the city for another busy summer season.
As winter sport draws to a close, Council’s Works and Services team has begun its annual sportsfield changeover, transitioning facilities from rugby league, AFL and football to cricket, Oztag, summer soccer and touch football ahead of the warmer months.

Across the city, crews are removing winter sporting infrastructure, undertaking turf maintenance and irrigation works, and preparing playing surfaces to support the thousands of players who use local sporting facilities each year.
Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer said the annual changeover highlights the significant planning and coordination required to support community sport throughout the year.
“Following another successful winter sporting season across Shellharbour, our teams are already preparing sportsfields for the transition to summer sport,” Mayor Homer said.
“This changeover involves significant behind-the-scenes work, with crews undertaking works at 14 locations across the city, removing 20 rugby league posts, 16 AFL posts and 20 soccer goals while preparing facilities for the months ahead.”
“Our sporting facilities continue to support strong participation across the community, and I’d like to thank our Council staff, sporting clubs and volunteers for the work they do throughout the year to help provide quality sporting facilities and opportunities for our community.”
Council’s sporting facilities continue to support strong participation across the city, with more than 4,000 players participating in summer sport during the 2025/26 season and over 7,000 participants taking part in winter sport during 2026.
The annual changeover is taking place at 14 locations across Shellharbour, including Flinders Field, Oakleigh Park, Pioneer Park, Keith Hockey Field, Morley Park, Croome AFL/Cricket Oval and Myimbarr West AFL/Cricket Field.
In addition to seasonal changeover works, Council has completed drainage and irrigation upgrades at around 50 sportsfields to help improve turf health, playing conditions and field resilience ahead of the busy summer season.
