The Crisafulli Government is delivering for community clubs across the Sunshine Coast with Coolum Football Club set to benefit from Round 2 of its Games On! Grassroots Infrastructure Program.

Coolum Football Club will receive $84,000 to address field drainage issues, reducing disruptions to games and training.

It’s just one of the 72 grassroots sporting clubs across Queensland to share in $30 million for new and upgraded facilities under Round 2 of the Games On! Grassroots Infrastructure Program.

There are 119 projects already being delivered under Round 1, with 40 projects now complete and 79 underway.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a lasting legacy and backing Queensland clubs, after a decade of underinvestment under the former Labor Government.

Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said Queensland’s Games On! legacy continues to grow.

“We’re proud to back local clubs like the Coolum Football Club through our Games On! program,” Minister Mander said.

“This investment will deliver real benefits to the athletes and community who use these facilities week in and week out.

“The $30 million boost from Round 2 is set to support another 72 clubs across Queensland and build on the projects already underway across the state.

“We want to cement our place as the home of sport in Australia and by investing in the facilities our clubs need, we are delivering a legacy that will last beyond 2032.

“Through Games On! we’re making sure grassroots clubs and communities share in the benefits of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, unlike Labor who were more focused on red carpet events for the Games.”

Member for Ninderry Dan Purdie said the funding for Coolum Football Club would enable the club to carry out vital drainage improvements.

“The Club currently experiences frequent field closures after periods of wet weather, so better drainage will mean more regular and consistent playing opportunities for club members,” said Mr Purdie.

“The funding will help more Coolum locals to be actively involved in sport and create a lasting community legacy for the future.”

Coolum Football Club President Jo Bush said the Games On! project will have a positive impact on more than 800 players at the club, aged from five to 50.

“This funding will allow us to improve our drainage and ultimately enable our members to be able to play more football,” said Ms Bush.

“The club’s fields are on low-lying land, next to a tidal creek, and have poor drainage, meaning when it rains, we regularly have to close our fields for training and matches.

“We wouldn’t be able to do this work without this funding, so thank you to the Queensland Government for the support.”
