Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said the Games On! program was helping clubs deliver quality facilities for both local participants and visiting athletes.
“Hervey Bay Hockey has a proud history of hosting state championships and welcoming players from across Queensland, and quality facilities are essential to supporting those opportunities,” Minister Mander said.

“The Crisafulli Government wants Queensland to be the home of Australian sport and we are backing community clubs by delivering a legacy that will last well beyond the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Member for Hervey Bay David Lee MP said the upgraded change room was a fantastic outcome for one of the Fraser Coast’s premier sporting venues.
“Hervey Bay Hockey has been bringing people together through sport for generations and continues to play an important role in the Fraser Coast community,” Mr Lee said.
“The upgraded change room will provide a more welcoming and accessible environment for players, officials and volunteers, while supporting the association’s ability to host major hockey events that bring visitors to our region.
“It’s fantastic to see this project completed and I congratulate everyone involved in making it a reality.”
Hervey Bay Hockey Association Secretary Cathy “Millie” Milijasevic said the upgraded change room would support the club’s future growth and ability to host major events.
“The Games On! program has allowed Hervey Bay Hockey Association to upgrade our change room facilities to cater for all levels of hockey tournaments, ultimately helping us attract elite events,” Ms Milijasevic said.
“The upgrade was put to the test when we hosted the Hockey Queensland Under 14 Girls State Championships recently. The facilities provided the standard required for an elite tournament, and the feedback from athletes, visitors and officials was overwhelmingly positive.
“The upgrade makes Hervey Bay Hockey Association a worthy contender when bidding for future elite sporting events and demonstrates our commitment to providing quality facilities for the game, our athletes and the community that supports our association through its volunteers.”
