Gawler East serious crash, South Australia

A teenager has suffered critical injuries after a car crashed into a pole at Gawler East in the early hours of this morning.

Just before 12.45am on Thursday 3 December, Barossa patrols attempted to stop a Mitsubishi Lancer on Gozzard Street at Gawler East however the car refused to stop and it was last seen heading north on Duffield Street.

The car was pursued for a short time before the patrol terminated due to safety reasons.

Minutes later the patrol located the Lancer crashed into a stobie pole on Daly Street. The driver had left the scene.

A 16-year-old girl of no fixed address, seated in the rear passenger seat, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. A 21-year-old man from no fixed address suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital where he was treated.

Police are still searching for the driver of the Mitsubishi Lancer.

Major Crash officers attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
