Geelong Sustainability Electric Homes Program leads way to clean energy future

Last night, Councillor Peter Murrihy joined community environment group, Geelong Sustainability, at the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre for an official community launch of the Electric Homes Program.

Residents are being invited to electrify their homes, save on power bills and transition to a renewable energy future through the Electric Homes Program.

The program, which is being delivered by Geelong Sustainability through a $50,000 Climate Change Partnerships grant, will connect residents with trusted local installers of solar, solar batteries, heating and cooling options, and hot water heat pumps to help upgrade households.

Today, more and more of our energy supply is coming from solar and wind – clean and reliable sources of energy. In addition, the efficiency of electric appliances has improved markedly to ensure they are cheaper to run.

The State and Federal governments, as well as energy distributors are investing heavily into making sure the electrical grid is clean, reliable, secure, and affordable for years to come.

Mayor Trent Sullivan:

Geelong Sustainability will be supporting residents to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

Households in the Greater Geelong region will be provided with the opportunity to install and upgrade solar systems, battery systems, heat pump hot water systems and split systems through this new program.

Councillor Murrihy, Chair of the Environment and Circular Economy portfolio:

Installing solar and going electric in your home will help create a healthier future, save on your energy bills and reduce emissions from your household.

You don’t have to do it all at once. You can plan and be ready to make the switch when appliances need replacing. It may take 6 months or 6 years.

To help support our local residents and businesses, we’ve created a Go Electric Action Plan for you to use and consider each of the five key steps to becoming a fully electric household powered by renewable energy.
