Georges River Council supports GambleAware Week 2023

Georges River Council

Georges River Council is participating in GambleAware Week 2023 (16-22 October) following Council endorsement at the Council Meeting on Monday 27 March.

As part of our commitment to raising awareness about the risks of gambling, Council will be sharing resources from the State Government with the community through digital channels and at our facilities.

GambleAware Week is an initiative that encourages individuals to reflect on their gambling behaviours and the impacts it may have on their lives, their health, relationships, and work.

This year’s theme ‘What’s gambling costing you?’—asks a thought-provoking question aimed at encouraging everyone to consider the hidden costs of gambling beyond just financial ones.

This question can shed light on the often-overlooked consequences of gambling and help individuals recognise and address the early signs of a gambling problem, before they escalate.

Georges River Council Mayor Sam Elmir said “GambleAware Week is an opportunity for our community to come together and have a meaningful conversation about the impact of gambling.

“The impacts of gambling harm can cost you your self-esteem, relationships, physical and mental health and work performance. There are resources available to help you understand and reduce gambling harm.”

GambleAware offers tailored support to individuals based on their unique needs and circumstances, and provide a free and confidential phoneline, open 24/7, for anyone seeking support.

In-language support is also available for individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
