Get creative at gallery these school holidays

Kids and teens will love the creative workshops on offer at Caloundra Regional Gallery these school holidays.

From Tuesday, September 24 to Wednesday, October 2, local artist Melinda Saunders will be in the gallery to deliver a range of interactive workshops inspired by the current/upcoming Kyoto Hanga International Print exhibition (September 19 – November 10).

All ages from four to 12+ are covered, so beat the school holiday rush and involve your kids in this one-off program.

Places will fill up quickly, so book early.

Caloundra Regional Gallery School Holiday Workshops

Stamped prints

Date: Tuesday, September 24

Time: 10-11am age 4-7 // 11.30am-1pm ages 8+

Cost: $15. Materials included

Details: Using basic stamps made from potatoes, foam and other everyday items kids will create some amazing pattern-work and also a range of different animals.

Mono-printing for kids

Date: Wednesday, September 25

Time: 10-11am, age 4-7 // 11.30am – 1pm, ages 8+

Cost: $15. Materials included

Details: A local landscape or a favourite place is the topic for our own mono-printing artworks. Children will work with acrylic paints to paint on a surface then press onto paper to produce one finished print. A second ‘ghost-print’ can also be produced.

Mono-printing for teens

Date: Wednesday, September 25

Time: 2-4pm, ages 12+

Cost: $15. Materials included

Details: Teens will create a painted scene of their choice and explore seeing it in the REVERSE (or perhaps upside-down!?) when they print the image onto fine-art paper using traditional print-making techniques.

Making relief-blocks

Date: Tuesday, October 1

Time: 10-11am, age 4-7 // 11.30am – 1pm, ages 8+

Cost: $15. Materials included

Details: Kids will explore constructing their unique print blocks and other stamps for printing, by exploring a wide variety of materials that can be combined for endless creative results. Designs will be printed onto paper and cards.

Large wood-prints and mixed media

Date: Wednesday, October 2

Time: 10-11am, age 4-7 // 11.30am – 1pm, ages 8+

Cost: $15. Materials included

Details: A selection of large, unique timber stamps created by Melinda Saunders will be used by the children to make a mixed-media artwork that combines one or more of the print items with their own painting, illustration and collage work.

Large wood-prints and mixed media

Date: Wednesday, October 2

Time: 2-4pm, ages 12+

Cost: $15. Materials included

Details: Teens will bring along a t-shirt, or any other flat-fabric items, to print on with their own unique designs and style! (Calico bags can be purchased on the day to use if desired). The artists’ unique range of wood-blocks will be used to print with, and teens will also learn to carve their own designs into easy-carve material for their own individual designs.
