‘Get Quokka Happy’ and save on Rottnest Island this winter

  • Discounted accommodation and ‘Rotto Dollars’ among measures to make Rottnest more affordable
  • Winter beach pop-up bar opens today, giving visitors the opportunity to have a drink and meal on the beach around a fire
  • ‘Get Quokka Happy’ marketing campaign to promote the island and drive visitation and support jobs
  • This year’s Quokka Birthday to be extended to a month-long celebration
  • McGowan Government continuing to encourage Western Australians to Wander out Yonder
  • A winter stay on Rottnest Island will be more attractive than ever this year, with savings of up to 40 per cent on accommodation and the launch of a beach pop-up bar where visitors can enjoy a drink and a meal around a fire.

The new ‘Get Quokka Happy’ campaign will see visitors who book a two-bedroom self-contained unit save between $42 and $103 per night.

Two-bedroom self-contained units will be priced from $149 per night, with three-bedroom units available from $199. These offers are available right up until the end of winter.

The campaign also sees the launch of the ‘Rotto Dollars’ promotion, where adult day visitors to the island will receive a $20 voucher to spend on activities, tours, and food and beverage options on the island, helping to support the local business community. There are over 6,000 vouchers available to the end of winter.

The first 6,000 adult visitors to make use of the promotion will also receive 20 ‘Rotto Dollars’ to spend on activities, tours, and food and beverage options on the island, helping to support the local business community.

From July 20 to the end of August, island admission fees for overnight visitors will also be waived – a saving of $25 per adult.

A new pop-up beach bar, operated by Hotel Rottnest and located in front of the venue, will offer visitors the chance to enjoy a drink and meal right on the beach.

It is also now easier to plan a stay at Rottnest, with new bookings for Rottnest Island Authority accommodation no longer requiring full payment up front.

Visitors now only need to make a deposit of 25 per cent with the balance payable 30 days prior to arrival.

The ‘Get Quokka Happy’ campaign is a joint initiative of the Rottnest Island Chamber of Commerce and Rottnest Island Authority to support the reopening of the Island and its small business community.

As part of the campaign, this year’s Quokka Birthday celebration will be extended to a month-long celebration throughout September, with further details to be announced soon.

Rottnest was reopened to visitors in June following its temporary use as part of the State Government’s COVID-19 response.

The McGowan Government continues to encourage Western Australians to Wander out Yonder and support local tourism by booking holidays and experiences around the State.

As stated by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

“There has never been a better time to discover or rediscover Rottnest Island’s charms, with a range of terrific discounts on offer for visitors this winter.

“The discounts are substantial and will mean more Western Australians can take a trip over to visit the world’s happiest animal this winter.

“The beach pop-up will allow people to have a drink and enjoy a meal on the sand, with the comfort of a fire.

“Rottnest is often considered a summer destination or somewhere to go when hosting friends and family from out-of-State, but we’re encouraging people to see just how good it is year‑round.

“These offers present a great chance to Wander out Yonder to our island paradise, help the WA tourism industry and support small business and local jobs.”
