Getting more females coaching in Tasmania

Jane Howlett,Minister for Sport and Recreation

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is increasing opportunities for women and girls to participate in all levels of sport, including coaching.

As Minister for Sport and Recreation and Minister for Women, it gives me great pleasure to announce that applications for the 2021-22 Women in Sport Coaching Scholarship will open tomorrow, Saturday 30 October 2021.

Now in its fourth year, the Scholarship is a partnership between Womensport and Recreation Tasmania Inc (WSRT) and the Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS).

The Scholarship is aimed at providing women with quality coach learning and development opportunities to support their progression along the coach development pathway.

Ultimately, the goal is to see more women coaching sport in Tasmania.

The Scholarship will provide financial support, as well as opportunities to enhance existing knowledge, experience and capability through learning and development activities including network building and mentorship.

The program will be tailored to the individual recipient, providing an individual coach development plan (completed in consultation with the scholarship recipient) and consistent progress reviews.

The value of each scholarship is $5,000, and applications will be open for a three week period.
