Girl charged over dangerous operation of vehicle causing Grievous Bodily Harm at Mermaid Waters, QLD

Police have charged a 16-year-old girl for allegedly running over a 72-year-old man in a stolen vehicle, following an armed burglary at Mermaid Waters last month.

It will be alleged that around 1.30pm on August 23, two males broke into a Lakeview Boulevard property whilst armed with a knife, while a girl waited in a stolen white 2018 Hyundai Tucson out the front.

It will be further alleged that while police were on-route, the 44-year-old resident and his 72-year-old father-in-law confronted the trio when the 72-year-old man was run over by the vehicle causing a serious leg injury, before the girl fled the scene in the car.

Police arrived at the scene and took two males into custody.

The 72-year-old man was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital. He has since been discharged but continues to suffer complications as a result of the injury.

Police charged an 18-year-old Surfers Paradise man with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, armed robbery and possession a knife in a public place.

A 14-year-old Bundall boy was charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and armed robbery.

Following comprehensive investigations, detectives arrested a 16-year-old Mermaid Waters girl at Mudgeeraba overnight.

She has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) and left scene without obtaining help, enter dwelling with intent, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlicenced driving.

The Hyundai Tucson had been stolen from Florabella Drive at Robina around 8.30am on August 23. It was recovered at Wickham Terrace, Spring Hall, on August 31.
