Cairns police yesterday arrested and charged two teenagers following a single vehicle crash on Farmer Street, Edmonton on Monday night, September 5 that left another teen with critical injuries.
A 13-year-old Kuranda girl, the alleged driver, was denied police bail and will appear in the Cairns Children’s Court charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm while excessively speeding, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and use mobile phone.
The girl was also charged with serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm after she allegedly punched an officer several times to the head and body around 10am yesterday while she was in hospital receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.
A 17-year-old Earlville boy was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and will appear in the Cairns Children’s Court.
A 14-year-old Edmonton boy, critically injured in the crash, was transported to Cairns Hospital before being airlifted to Townsville Hospital.
The car was allegedly stolen from Kuranda on September 5. Original media release issued September 5.
