Gold, Silver, and Bronze at ISSF World Cup Junior

There were some incredible results from our Australian ISSF World Cup Junior Team bringing home three medals from Suhl, Germany, and with them some notable scores.

The action kicked off on Day 1 with Tori Rossiter qualifying with a score of 628.8 in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle and Michael Davis scoring 622.5 in the 10m Air Rifle Men’s Qualification.

Michael and Tori then teamed up for the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team Junior qualification where they scored 623.7 narrowly missing out on the bronze medal match.

In the Trap Women Junior qualification, Kiara Dean scored 112/125 with a further 1 target in the shoot-off to qualify in 7th position and a place in Semi-Final 1. Molly Bretag finished the qualification with a score of 108/125, whilst Renae Jones scored 91/125.

Into the Women’s Semi-Final 1, Kiara Dean scored 22/25 finishing in first position and advancing to the medal match where scored 25/35 to pick up the silver medal for Australia!

Marco Corbo and Gabe Sensi scored 121/125 and 119/125 respectively in the Trap Men Junior qualification, both qualifying for the Trap Men’s Junior Semi-Final. William Freni-Lizzi scored 113/125 in qualification. Into the Semi Finals and Marco Corbo scored 16/25 to advance to the medal match, with Gabe Sensi scoring 14/25 ending his competition for the day. Corbo went on to score 32/25 and win the gold medal for Australia.

It was then on to the Trap Team Junior events with Gabe Sensi, Marco Corbo, and William Freni-Lizzi teaming up in the Mens Team, and Kiara Dean, Renae Jones, and Molly Bretag teaming up for the Women’s Team.

Both our Junior Men’s and Women’s Trap Teams qualified for the bronze medal match with scores of 203/225 and 196/225, respectively. In the Medal Match the Men went into a shoot-off with Italy after both teams reached 5 points each. Team Italy was victorious and took the bronze medal. The Women Junior team scored a total of 6 points to the USA team’s 4, claiming the bronze medal for Australia.

In the Trap Mixed Team Junior event, Gabe Sensi teamed up with Kiara Dean, and William Freni-Lizzi teamed up with Renae Jones.

Both mixed teams finished with qualifying scores of 134/150. After a shoot-off, William and Renae progressed to the bronze medal match and Gabe and Kiara finished their competition in 7th position. William and Renae left the bronze medal match in 4th position.

In the 50m 3 Positions Rifle event Michael Davis finished the qualification stage in 10th position with a score of 578/600, and just one point short of a finals appearance. Tori Rossiter followed with another strong qualification score of 576/600and finished in 27th position.

To finish the World Cup Junior shotgun events, Mark Du Rose made his international debut in the Skeet Men Junior where he scored 103/125 placing 58th.

The final event for our Junior athletes in Suhl was the 50m Rifle Prone Open where Tori Rossiter finished with a personal best score of 620.8/654, only .5 from the bronze medal. Michael Davis finished with a score 616.6/654 in 14th position.

A huge congratulations to the Australian Junior Team who performed incredibly well throughout the last week. We are extremely proud of how they represented themselves, Shooting Australia, and Australia. A special mention also to the coaches and support teams that accompanied the athletes, and Vince Lizzi who did a fantastic job capturing some great moments through his photography.
