Good Friday: Sacred street theatre performance invites Sydney to table

Wesley Mission

Good Friday, 14 April 2022

1 pm, Martin Place Amphitheatre, Sydney

Public performance directed by Bethany Simons

Tomorrow, Christians will remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at Good Friday services around the country. In Sydney, Wesley Mission invites everyone to gather at an extended banquet table for an immersive performance that journeys with Jesus from the Garden of Gethsemane to the place he will be crucified.

The ensemble transforms from dinner guests to an angry mob and finally to a choir as Jesus’ final, agonising steps to the Cross are told through drama, songs and words.

Reflecting on the day’s importance, Wesley Mission CEO Rev Stu Cameron says, “The Good Friday story forever answers the question, ‘Where is God in our pain?’ The cross answers that God is with us, always, in the midst of it.”

“Easter is the central festival that marks the Christian faith even more than Christmas. It was Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection that changed the course of human history and the lives of billions of people since, including me.”

Media should assemble at Martin Place Amphitheatre at 12.45 pm and will have access to capture the performance up close and move along with the action.
