The City of Fremantle, in partnership with Good Sammy, is offering a simplified donation process to encourage donation of pre-loved items using Good Sammy’s easy and accessible collection service.
Residents are invited to clean out their closets while supporting a meaningful cause this July and August.
Simply pack your pre-loved wearable items (clothes, accessories, shoes) into the yellow bag provided and place it near your letterbox before 8am on your allocated pick-up date (as listed on your flyer).
Look out for the flyer in your letterbox for more details.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Will you accept items other than clothing, shoes and accessories?
Yes – we can accept all quality household goods that will fit in a bag.
2. I’ve got more than one bag full – can I place out more material?
Yes – please place material out in bags next to the yellow Good Sammy bag. Please don’t place out material earlier than the night before.
If you have more than 4 bags (including furniture) please call 9463 0500 for a free Home Collection on another date.
3. Can I have more yellow bags?
We are unable to deliver more yellow bags at this stage. Please place your donations out in a different bag or box (preferably not a black garbage bag).
4. How much material can I place out?
Please limit it to 4 bags per household. We only have a small collection vehicle and will not be able to collect large and bulky items.
5. The collection day doesn’t suit, can you collect it another day?
Our truck will only be collecting on the date specified on your flyer. If you are unable to put it out for that date, please take your items to one of our stores or community donation points. We hope to do more kerbside collections throughout the year if this collection is successful.
6. How early can I put the bag out?
Please place it out no more than 24 hours prior to collection.
7. Where do I put the bag?
Please place it next to your letter box, or on the kerbside wherever you place your bins for collection. It needs to be visible and accessible to the driver that will drive down each street in your area.
8. Why provide plastic bags when there is a single use plastic bag ban?
The plastic bags are lightweight, weatherproof and practical to deliver and collect household goods in. Good Sammy has a plastic recycling system in place. We have assessed a number of alternatives and determined this to be the most suitable.
9. What can I do with the plastic bag if I don’t want to put out clothes?
Please use it for something else, our suggestion is to place containers in it and use our Containers for Change service. Alternatively, you can leave it outside next to your letterbox and we will collect it, or save it until the next clothing collection, or take it to one of our stores where we can reuse it. It could be used as a bin liner.
10.. Can I put out Containers for Change collection with the clothes?
We would prefer you take eligible containers to one of our authorised refund points. If you are unable to do so, we will collect bagged containers with Containers for Change Member Numbers on. If there is no Member Number on the bag, the funds will be donated to Good Sammy. The containers must NOT be in the same bag as your material items (i.e. clothes).
11. What happens to the clothes/ items that are collected?
They are taken to our Canning Vale warehouse where they are sorted for store sale. Any items that aren’t suitable for store sale will be put to best use and may be repurposed or recycled.
12.. I missed the collection day, can you come and pick it up?
Our van will only be in the area on the date and time specified. After that date we will not be able to pick it up, so please take your donations in one of our stores or community donation points.
Thank you for your contribution, we appreciate you supporting Good Sammy and disability employment.
