Slim Dusty, one of the Kempsey Shire’s most treasured musicians is being honoured on Google today.
Today’s ‘Google Doodle‘ celebrates Slim Dusty’s legacy who is thought by many to be one of the most iconic country music artists of all time.
Born David Kirkpatrick in 1927 in Kempsey, Slim spent his childhood on his family farm near Nulla Nulla Creek dreaming of one day becoming a country singer. In his early twenties, Slim left the farm to follow a full-time music career performing his iconic Bush Ballads around the Australian countryside.
In 1957, the bestselling song recorded by an Australian was released by Slim, ‘A Pub with No Beer’, earning him his first Gold Record. Throughout Slim’s career, he earned multiple accolades including Gold and Platinum awards and a massive 38 Golden Guitars. He was also voted A National Treasure by the Australian public and inducted into the ARIA’s Hall of Fame.
Together the Slim Dusty Foundation, the Slim Dusty Centre and Kempsey Shire Council have worked with Google to showcase Slim’s outstanding career all over Australia and the United Kingdom for the day.
