Government of Western Australia response to Christchurch tragedy

The Western Australian Government is continuing to monitor the impacts of the tragic events in Christchurch.

The WA Police Force and Government agencies are working closely together and with their Commonwealth counterparts to ensure Western Australia is ready for any possible threat.

Anyone with information on suspicious activity is urged to call the National Security Hotline on 1800 123 400 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

As noted by Premier Mark McGowan:

“My heart goes out to the people of Christchurch and New Zealand.

“The events in Christchurch are shocking and the thoughts of all Western Australians are with those affected by these acts of terror.

“The State Government stands united with our New Zealand friends and condemns these attacks that have taken the lives of so many innocent people.

“The WA Police Force is reaching out to our local communities to engage and support them during this most difficult time.

“One of WA’s greatest strengths is our harmonious, diverse, multicultural, multi-faith community. We must stay united to preserve and protect that.”

As noted by Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister Paul Papalia:

“Like Western Australia, New Zealand is a thriving multicultural community with values of respect and compassion.

“As a community, we must respond to these events by coming together to support each other and show that these actions have no place in our society.

“In Western Australia, the State Government works closely with community groups and leaders to ensure a strong and safe community.”
