Grading works rolling on in Woodstock ahead of the wet season

Townsville City Council is spreading some more Christmas cheer by offering free two-hour parking throughout the CBD for the month of December.

The popular initiative is in its fourth year and hopes to bring the community into the city for Christmas shopping.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said free 2P parking is a great way to bring visitors into the CBD and encourage them to shop local.

“Townsville is lucky to have one of a kind boutiques and traders in the CBD – it would be great to see residents taking advantage of the free parking and supporting local businesses,” Cr Hill said.

“Council is implementing lots of initiatives to bring the community into the city such as the Street Art program or the free 15 minute parking introduced earlier in the year.

“The two hour free parking for Christmas is just another way we try to activate the CBD and provide a boost for city traders.”

Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said she hoped shoppers and traders would embrace the Christmas spirit and spend more time – and money – in our city heart.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the city come alive throughout the festive season and seeing Townsville celebrate Christmas together,” Cr Greaney said.

The free parking will apply to all 2P spaces but the time limit will still apply and be enforced to give all residents a chance to park for free.
