Bass Coast Shire Council will submit three funding applications to the State Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program, for a total of approximately $5.5 million.
Council is applying for funding to complete the 2020 Sports Pavilion Project, the 2020 Field Lighting Project and the Guy Road Trail Project.
The 2020 Sports Pavilion Project would provide new pavilions for the Phillip Island Croquet Club, the Wonthaggi Croquet Club and the Wonthaggi Tennis Club. Council is applying for $1.88 million for this $2.1 million Project. The remaining funding will come from Council and the Clubs.
The 2020 Field Lighting Project continues the efforts of Council to provide safe, compliant training spaces for local sports clubs. This Project will provide 200 lux (playing standard) LED lighting at the Cowes, Dalyston and Inverloch recreation reserves. Council is applying for $1.08 million for this $1.2 million project. The remaining funding will come from Council and the Dalyston, Inverloch-Kongwak and Phillip Island Football Netball clubs.
The Guy Road Trail Project would create a six kilometre path, to link the popular coastal hamlet of Corinella to Bass Valley Primary School, via Tenby Point. The pathway will provide an option for visitors to experience the Waterline area through walking and cycling and will also establish a safe commuter link from Tenby Point and Corinella to the School. The Trail has been identified as one of Council’s Top 10 Advocacy Priorities. Council is applying for a $2.8 million grant and will contribute $280,000 to this Project.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said that the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program provides Council with an opportunity to access significant funding to deliver key recreation projects.
“Without grant funding, projects such as these would not be possible through Council’s Capital Program for many years,” Cr Tessari said.
“The contribution of grant funding allows Council to provide high quality facilities to the community.”
All three Projects are fully designed, costed and should the applications be successful, construction will begin by February 2021.
