Grants announced for International Day of People with Disability

  • 84 grants provided for community events and activities
  • Promoting the participation and inclusion of people with disability
  • Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson has today announced the 84 successful grant recipients ahead of next month’s celebrations to mark the United Nations’ International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) 2019.

The UN-sanctioned IDPwD on December 3 celebrates achievements and contributions of people with disability, with a focus on striving for inclusivity through the removal of physical, technological and attitudinal barriers.

This year, the number of events and activities in Western Australia held on or around IDPwD has increased substantially, with 84 grants of up to $1,000 provided by the McGowan Government.

As part of this year’s theme for IDPwD, the WA grants will help raise awareness about the importance of participation and inclusion for people living with disability. Events start on November 23 and cover the entire State, from Perth to the Great Southern, Goldfields and the far north.

Activities range from awards events, free performances and workshops to exhibitions, including athletics and Para Dance display. For more information about the IDPwD and a calendar of events, visit  https://www.idpwd.com.au
