Artists and community groups across the Yarra Ranges can apply for up to $10,000 in funding for events and projects from 1 June, through Council’s annual Grants for Community program.

Grants are available for not-for-profit groups and individual artists for projects that will be rolled out in 2021. Three funding categories are available: Arts and Heritage, Community Development and Festivals and Events.

Yarra Ranges Mayor, Richard Higgins, said that grants provide important support for groups and artists in the region, many of which have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’ve heard from many community members working in creative industries about the significant drop in paid work, disruptions to events and projects and growing uncertainty about the future,” Cr Higgins said.

“Even before the pandemic, we know that many brilliant creative projects haven’t got off the ground because of a lack of funding.

“Our yearly grants can provide artists and community groups with certainty and support for their projects, helping them to plan, seek further funding or get the cogs turning to bring their idea to life.

“It’s a competitive program and unfortunately we can’t always support every application, but our assessment panel will be looking at projects that foster social and economic recovery from the pandemic as a top priority”.
