Grants Now Available To Support Trainees In Regional WA

The latest round of the Cook Government’s Regional Traineeship Program grants is now open, with $2 million available to build local jobs and workforce capacity in regional communities across Western Australia.

Grants of up to $50,000 will be available to WA Community Resource Network members and select regional Local Government Authorities to assist with the cost of employing a trainee.

The one-off payment supports vocational training to develop trainee skills and knowledge to help meet the needs of local businesses and industry in the regions.

Since the program began eight years ago, 412 trainee placements have commenced across the State, benefiting local enterprises and communities across regional WA.

The program will be delivered through the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, with up to 40 grants available.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson:

“The Cook Labor Government is proud to be supporting regional Western Australians grow their career opportunities through the Regional Traineeship Program.

“This program is helping regional communities create opportunities for people to stay local, develop their skills, and secure meaningful employment.

“I encourage Community Resource Centres and eligible local governments to connect with businesses in their region and explore how the program can support job creation, workforce development, and long-term community prosperity.”

As stated by Skills and TAFE Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“The Cook Labor Government has an ambitious training and apprenticeship program.

“We want to see Western Australian workers take up training and upskilling opportunities.

“We’re proud to back the Regional Traineeship Program which helps communities develop local talent, create jobs, and build the skilled workforce our regions need.”
