Grants program now open to support regional traineeships

  • Grants of up to $38,000 now available under the Regional Traineeship Program
  • Program encourages people to stay and work in their local regional community
  • The McGowan Government has opened the latest round of its Regional Traineeship Program to boost skills development and employment opportunities across regional Western Australia.

The $2 million funding round is available to Western Australian Community Resource Network Community Resource Centres (CRCs) and eligible local government authorities to support trainees in regional areas.

Grants of up to $38,000 per trainee are available to assist in the development of trainees’ skills and knowledge, based on business and industry needs.

Since the 2018-19 financial year, 225 grant recipients and their communities have benefited from the program with trainee placements throughout regional WA.

Eligible organisations will be invited by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development to lodge a grant application for the funding.

The grant round opens August 8, 2022 and will close September 5, 2022.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“The Regional Traineeship Program helps organisations to provide training, skills and employment opportunities to encourage people to stay and work in their local regional community.

“Last year’s program saw 49 organisations employing trainees who studied in fields including community services, event management, information technology, horticulture, tourism and youth work.

“We encourage CRCs and eligible local governments to work closely with regional businesses to make sure the program is delivering tangible outcomes for both trainees and their employers.

“We also encourage businesses and communities to think creatively in bringing forward applications that encourage partnerships with other local providers to maximise work and skills development opportunities for trainees.”
