  • This year’s Bike Week events will be held between March 15 to 24
  • Construction of several major bike paths across the State is now underway
  • State Government investing $134 million over four years towards cycling projects
  • Preparations for Bike Week 2019 are gearing up, with grants totalling $38,000 awarded to 40 recipients to hold events that encourage people of all ages and abilities to get on their bikes.

For more than 30 years, Bike Week has been Western Australia’s annual celebration of people riding bicycles for transport, fun and healthier lifestyles.

The State Government’s Bike Week Grants Program provides funding assistance to facilitate a diverse line-up of celebratory events.

The 2019 Bike Week grants have been allocated to community, school and workplace events that support and encourage people to explore their communities by bicycle.

Metropolitan and regional events include breakfasts, bike tours, treasure hunts and triathlons, ensuring there is something for all cycling abilities.

Bike Week 2019 will be held from March 15 to 24, and will be co-ordinated by WestCycle with the support of the Department of Transport.

    website.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“Every year we see more and more people participating in Bike Week and this year our grants are helping to spread events right across WA, from Kununurra to Albany.

“If you have always wanted to give bike riding a go or get back on the saddle, these events provide the perfect opportunity to ride with your family, co-workers or schoolmates in a friendly, supportive and fun environment.

“Bike Week is also a great time to explore your community and discover your local bike routes.

“Over the next four years, $134 million is being invested towards new cycling projects, expanding the network of paths for walkers and riders, with a range of bike infrastructure projects scheduled to reach completion this year.”
