Hidden gems from the Territory’s past will be brought to light by a group of historians who have received grants to support research into subjects ranging from Tiwi stories to water sports.
The Territory Labor Government’s NT History Grants provide assistance to support original research into our unique history.
This year’s recipients include Bev Phelts who will produce a tourist history brochure about Parap and Fannie Bay; Kim Scott who will reveal his childhood spent in Katherine; and Ingrid Johanson who plans to capture words from the women of Maningrida.
Further, Maisie Austin will document the history of a WWII military camp at Parap; and the Italian Club will revitalise stories of bygone Italians from the NT.
The 14 recipients, who share a grant pool of $58,000, will spend the next 12 months carrying out original research that broadens community understanding and engagement with NT history.
